Clannism

The Perpetuation of Political Imbalance

Binary II's clannism runs rampant, especially in the main clan, where the majority of the political power lies. The hierarchy falls into the clan order of Sha, Itska, and Suyi, with Suyi having the least influence. With the clans so closely integrated together, there's specific rules that are expected to be followed. Clan women are expected to either marry up in the hierarchy or marry at the same level. Males are allowed to marry any status but the consequences are case by case. Males who marry up can elevate their status, but can't politically overtake members who are born into the same position- and if a male marries into the Sha clan, their power in proceedings place lower than female born Shas. Males are discouraged from marrying down, but allowed to take lower concubines.

Birth descent is classified patriarchally, however, the Sha are especially stringent on the idea of 'diluting' the distribution of power. This is to perpetuate unequal power and prevent upending the Sha from main clan status. Unfortunately, for any Sha children born of dual descent, they obtain reduced status and majority will step down into their matrilineal clan to avoid ostracization.
